Rodney J. Hicks
An Australian nuclear medicine pioneer who built Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre's molecular imaging and therapy service into a world-renowned unit over three decades, and now runs an independent theranostics centre in Melbourne.
Overview
Rodney Hicks directed cancer imaging and later the Centre for Molecular Imaging and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine at Melbourne's Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre for around three decades, building a nuclear medicine service that helped pioneer clinical PET/CT in Australia and later 177Lu-PSMA-617 radioligand therapy. He was a senior author on the single-centre LuPSMA phase 2 trial and contributed to the proPSMA randomised trial of PSMA PET-CT for staging high-risk prostate cancer, and to methods for single-time-point SPECT/CT dosimetry of 177Lu-PSMA-617 therapy.
After leaving Peter Mac in 2021, he founded the Melbourne Theranostic Innovation Centre (MTIC), where he is Executive Chairman and Chief Medical Officer, delivering theranostics clinical and research services in partnership with industry, while retaining a professorial appointment at the University of Melbourne.
