Matthias Eiber
A German nuclear medicine physician whose 2015 study of gallium-68 PSMA PET scanning for prostate cancer became one of the most-cited papers in the field, and who now leads theranostics research in Munich.
Overview
Matthias Eiber led the seminal 2015 Journal of Nuclear Medicine study evaluating hybrid 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT in 248 patients with biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy, a paper that is credited with driving global adoption of PSMA PET imaging. Working within Markus Schwaiger's department at TUM's Klinikum rechts der Isar, he subsequently helped develop and validate PSMA-I&T and compared 68Ga-PSMA-11 against 18F-PSMA-1007.
He leads the Theranostics Section at his department (since 2020) and is a co-author of the PROMISE miTNM framework for standardised PSMA-PET reporting and of RECIP 1.0, a framework for assessing radiographic response to PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy. He continues to publish extensively on PSMA PET-guided radioligand therapy dosimetry and outcome prediction, including work linked to the PSMAddition trial.
