Amir Iravani
A nuclear medicine physician-scientist who worked on the practice-changing TheraP and LuPSMA trials in Australia and has moved through Fred Hutchinson to UCLA in 2026 to build a new hospital theranostics programme.
Overview
Amir Iravani trained at Melbourne's Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he was a co-investigator on the LuPSMA phase 2 trial and the TheraP randomised phase 2 trial (177Lu-PSMA-617 versus cabazitaxel), including work on PSMA and FDG PET as predictive and prognostic biomarkers. He later became Theranostics Clinical Director at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Washington, where he studied how PSMA/FDG dual-tracer selection criteria (TheraP-style versus VISION-style) affect outcomes with 177Lu-PSMA-617.
In July 2026 he joined UCLA Health as Director of the Theranostics Program and Vice Chair of Clinical Research in the newly established Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics, tasked with expanding clinical trials and research collaborations in precision radiopharmaceutical care.
