Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Peter Mac is Australia's only dedicated cancer hospital and a leader in theranostics, CAR-T, and radiation oncology.
Overview
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne is Australia's only dedicated cancer hospital, the core of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and ranks fourteenth in the Newsweek/Statista oncology list. It pioneered PSMA PET imaging and lutetium-177 PSMA radioligand therapy through Hofman's TheraP and proPSMA trials, became Australia's first CAR-T centre, and has a strong radiation oncology programme, with Sarah-Jane Dawson, Joseph Trapani, Declan G. Murphy, Andrew H. Wei and Grant McArthur among its people. Nuclide links it to prostate cancer, to the CROWN and DYNAMIC papers, to ANZUP and other Australian trial groups, and to ideas for a rapid research autopsy network and a shared cyclotron network for new tracers. Getting radioligand supply and regulation to match demand is the open problem its theranostics work exposes. Its trial and people pages carry the detail.

Urologist who co-led proPSMA, the trial that showed PSMA PET should replace CT and bone scan for staging prostate cancer.
Led proPSMA and TheraP, the trials that proved PSMA PET beats conventional imaging and that lutetium-PSMA beats chemotherapy.
An Australian nuclear medicine pioneer who built Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre's molecular imaging and therapy service into a world-renowned unit over three decades, and now runs an independent theranostics centre in Melbourne.
Runs the medical oncology side of Peter Mac's theranostics programme, combining lutetium-PSMA with hormonal and immune therapies.
