The Lancet Oncology
The Lancet Oncology is the leading specialist cancer journal for clinical trials. It publishes phase 2 and 3 trials, long-term follow-up, quality-of-life analyses and global-oncology policy Commissions.
Overview
The Lancet Oncology appears monthly plus online-first and publishes a large share of randomised oncology trials that do not go to NEJM, with particular strength in radiotherapy, surgery, supportive care and health-system studies (IBIS-I tamoxifen prevention, MASAI AI mammography, GAP70 geriatric assessment in this corpus). Its Commissions and Series drive policy debates on drug pricing, radiotherapy access and cancer in low-income countries. Elsevier hybrid model; abstracts free.
A single injection and a PET scan five days later can identify clear-cell kidney cancer accurately enough to help decide whether someone with a suspicious kidney lump needs surgery, avoiding some biopsies and unnecessary operations.
This article is a call to action from senior nuclear medicine physicians: the treatments were becoming ready, but hospitals, regulators and isotope suppliers were not yet organised to deliver them at scale - a warning that proved accurate when demand for lutetium-177 PSMA therapy outstripped supply after 2022.
In a small early trial, most heavily pre-treated men with advanced prostate cancer responded to the PSMA-targeted radioactive drug, with manageable side effects, supporting the case for testing it in larger randomised trials.
A nuclear medicine physician-scientist who worked on the practice-changing TheraP and LuPSMA trials in Australia and has moved through Fred Hutchinson to UCLA in 2026 to build a new hospital theranostics programme.
Runs the UCLA theranostics trials that test PSMA imaging against conventional scans and lutetium against chemotherapy.
Led NETTER-1, the trial that made lutetium dotatate the first approved radioligand therapy for neuroendocrine tumours.
Nuclear medicine leader who co-led VISION and runs one of the world's largest theranostics programmes.
Nuclear medicine physician who leads ENZA-p and the PSMA imaging trials shaping Australian theranostics.
Nuclear medicine physician who directs Centre Henri Becquerel, the comprehensive cancer centre for the Rouen area in Normandy.
An Australian nuclear medicine pioneer who built Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre's molecular imaging and therapy service into a world-renowned unit over three decades, and now runs an independent theranostics centre in Melbourne.
Runs the medical oncology side of Peter Mac's theranostics programme, combining lutetium-PSMA with hormonal and immune therapies.
