Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences
South Korea's government radiation-medicine institute, which runs the national cancer hospital and the cyclotrons that make the country's research isotopes.
Overview
KIRAMS is a government-funded research institute combining radiological research with the Korea Cancer Center Hospital, which has operated since 1963. Its cyclotrons supply research isotopes to Korean groups, and in 2025 it was reported to have received approval from Korea's Nuclear Safety and Security Commission to begin cyclotron production of actinium-225, the alpha emitter behind the next generation of radioligand therapies. That approval is reported here from an English-language news account rather than a KIRAMS page, and is flagged as such.
KIRAMS also convenes the national alpha-radiopharmaceutical research consortium with Korean industry, which is how the state institute and the listed developers (FutureChem, CellBion) coordinate on isotope supply.
