Life Molecular Imaging
A company that makes Neuraceq, an injectable radioactive tracer that lights up Alzheimer's plaques on a PET brain scan, and is now owned by Lantheus.
Overview
Life Molecular Imaging (LMI) develops and commercialises F-18-labelled PET radiopharmaceuticals for neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disease. Its flagship product is Neuraceq (florbetaben F-18 injection), an amyloid-beta PET imaging agent approved in the United States, European Union, Canada, South Korea, China and Japan, used to estimate amyloid neuritic plaque density in adults with cognitive impairment being evaluated for Alzheimer's disease, including to select patients eligible for amyloid-beta-directed therapies. LMI was previously a subsidiary of Life Healthcare Group Holdings.
Beyond Neuraceq, LMI's pipeline includes an F-18 tau PET tracer (florzolotau/izaflortaucipir programmes referenced in company pipeline listings) and, following a June 2024 deal, global rights to a GRPR-targeted theranostic pair, 68Ga-DOTA-RM2 (diagnostic) and 177Lu-DOTA-RM2 (therapeutic), aimed at prostate, breast and other GRPR-expressing cancers.
Lantheus Holdings announced the acquisition of Life Molecular Imaging in January 2025 (upfront payment of $350 million plus up to $400 million in earn-out and milestone payments) and completed the roughly $789 million transaction in July 2025, giving Lantheus a commercial Alzheimer's disease diagnostic franchise and LMI's manufacturing and distribution network, which it has since been expanding within the United States (for example new production sites in Southern California and, via a partnership with SOFIE Biosciences, in Decatur, Illinois).
