AdvanCell
An Australian biotech building its own supply of the rare radioactive metal lead-212 so it can make alpha-particle cancer therapies, starting with one for prostate cancer.
Overview
AdvanCell (AdvanCell Isotopes) is a vertically integrated, clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company headquartered in Australia with operations extending to North America. Its core strategy is to control the whole chain for lead-212 (212Pb)-based targeted alpha therapy: proprietary 212Pb isotope production technology, secure isotope supply, in-house manufacturing, and clinical development of 212Pb-labelled targeting molecules, rather than relying on external isotope suppliers as many alpha-therapy developers must.
Its lead clinical candidate, ADVC001 (212Pb-PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy), is in a Phase II trial (NCT05720130) for metastatic prostate cancer. The company originated from work at the University of Newcastle, Australia (spun out around 2019), and has raised substantial venture financing to build out clinical and commercial manufacturing infrastructure, including a Series C round and a July 2026 oversubscribed and upsized Series D financing of US$315 million, backed by investors including Abingworth, Brandon Capital, Morningside, Sanofi Ventures, SV Ventures and Sofinnova-adjacent funds; proceeds are earmarked for advancing ADVC001 toward late-stage development and expanding manufacturing capacity.
Because lead-212 (via its parent thorium-228/radium-224 decay chain) has a much shorter half-life than actinium-225, AdvanCell's bet is that a dedicated, scaled production and logistics system for 212Pb can supply alpha emitters more reliably than the constrained global actinium-225 supply chain that its competitors depend on.
