## TL;DR

A German nuclear medicine doctor at Essen who helped design a scoring system, RECIP, for reading follow-up PSMA scans in prostate cancer patients on lutetium therapy, and who co-writes the field's international imaging guidelines.

## Summary

Wolfgang Fendler is vice chair (deputy director, under Ken Herrmann) and head of translational oncology at the University Hospital Essen's Department of Nuclear Medicine, and a member of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK). He is first or senior author on a series of studies validating Response Evaluation Criteria in PSMA-PET/CT (RECIP 1.0), a framework for reading follow-up PSMA PET scans in men on 177Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy, and co-authored the EANM/SNMMI joint procedure guidelines for both PSMA PET/CT and 177Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy.

His research also covers real-world outcomes of extended and rechallenge 177Lu-PSMA-617 therapy in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, and he received the EAU Prostate Cancer Research Award in 2021 for his work relating PSMA-ligand PET findings to clinical outcomes in non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
